This article is written by the ReflActionist collective: It consists of two white* female* German citizens, who wrote the first draft of the article and numerous comrades who commented, corrected, put thoughts and ideas in the text. It is the result of our reflections on our work along the ‘Balkanroute’. In October and November 2015, we travelled to the Serbian-Croatian and the Greek-Macedonian border with the ‘Moving Europe‘ van. The goals of the project were to connect with local activists along the route, gather migrant relevant information and write updates for the live feed of the Welcome to Europe-Website. We collected the information in a leaflet and set up info points at border crossings. In spring 2016, we went to the Greek borders once again, this time with the Refugee Movement Journey to Greece.

Some readers might suspect us to be very dogmatic about the ideas we elaborate here. And yes, maybe we are! But that’s not how we want to be, since we understand more and more that our political socialization is highly influenced by the context we are active in, the people we meet, the texts we read, etc. Also while writing this article we had a lot of difficulties in trying not to sound judgemental, didactic and as if we are the ones who have the answers. In fact, we want to open up a discussion about our self-reflections instead of being arrogant. However, we probably didn’t manage to get rid of it completely. We realized how we are involved in a dominant culture of discussion within the left scene that more often is about blaming and shaming instead of honestly talking about own involvements and activist perspectives. For us it is an ongoing process of learning how to express our own thoughts and to put our current state of reflection into discussions.

Der Artikel ist das Ergebnis der Reflexionen über unsere Arbeit auf der ‚Balkanroute‘. Im Oktober und November 2015 sind wir mit dem Moving-Europe-Bus an die serbisch-kroatische und die griechisch-mazedonische Grenze gereist. Die Ziele des Projektes bestanden darin, sich mit lokalen Aktivist*innen entlang der Route zu vernetzen, Informationen zu sammeln die für Migrant*innen relevant sind, und Updates für den Livefeed der Welcome-to-Europe-Webseite zu schreiben. Wir haben Informationen in einem Flyer gesammelt und Infopoints an Grenzübergängen aufgebaut. Im Frühjahr 2016 sind wir nochmal an die griechischen Grenzen gefahren, dieses Mal mit der Refugee Movement Journey to Greece.

Einige Leser*innen verdächtigen uns wahrscheinlich, dass wir sehr dogmatisch bezüglich der Ideen sind, die wir hier entwickeln. Ja, vielleicht sind wir das! Aber das ist nicht, wie wir sein möchten, weil wir immer mehr verstehen, dass unsere politische Sozialisation sehr stark vom Kontext beeinflusst ist in dem wir aktiv sind, von den Menschen die wir treffen, den Texten die wir lesen usw. Auch als wir diesen Artikel schrieben, hatten wir große Schwierigkeiten damit, nicht verurteilend oder belehrend zu klingen, oder so, als ob wir diejenigen wären, die die Antworten haben. Anstatt arrogant zu sein, wollen wir eine Diskussion über unsere Selbstreflexionen eröffnen. Dennoch haben wir es wahrscheinlich nicht geschafft, diesen Unterton komplett loszuwerden. Wir haben verstanden, wie sehr wir in eine dominante Diskussionskultur innerhalb der linken Szene verstrickt sind, in der es sehr oft eher darum geht, andere zu beschuldigen, anstatt ehrlich über unsere Verstrickungen und aktivistischen Perspektiven zu sprechen. Zu lernen, wie wir unsere Gedanken ausdrücken und den aktuellen Stand unserer Reflexionen in Diskussionen einbringen können, ist für uns ein ständiger Prozess.
